In 1942, famed French aviator and author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was looking for a quiet place to write and complete his book, The Little Prince. He found it in a mansion on Long Island near the village of Northport. Only a few people knew the details of what happened while Saint-Exupéry was writing his masterpiece. One was Adele Breaux, the French teacher from Northport High School whom Saint-Exupéry hired to teach him English. Many years later, Adele set out to write a book to record the facts of those details for the world to know and remember. However, in doing so, she left out the most important fact of all -- she fell in love. Inspired by the memories and recollections from three of Adele’s closest friends, this story is unique in that there is little information available about the time Saint-Exupéry was writing The Little Prince. Adele Breaux, being one of Saint-Exupéry’s few yet frequent visitors to the mansion, saw first-hand his master work in progress, and came to know him well during that time. Those months in 1942 that Adele shared with Saint-Exupéry were something she spoke often with to her friends, well into her declining years. It was obvious to them that he had more than made a significant impression on her life. He had her heart.

Lonely Heart Of The Little Prince LeeAnna Neumeyer 9780991174003 Books Reviews

What a delightful read! I couldn't wait to get home each night to see what Adele was up to, and I also dream that this "IS" really her story. Beautifully written and well-crafted in its storytelling format with the flashbacks, I found myself easily moving between past and present and loving every minute of it. It was also a great education about this amazing writer and artist. I look forward to more books from this author.
This book captivates the reader from start to finish. You're bouncing through turbulent memories with Adele and you just want to give her one of those "go after your dream" speeches. Unfortunately, her dream vanished during the war and has no hope of coming true. Beautifully written and heart-wrenching throughout, you will find yourself cheering for the quiet old lady over and over. For anyone who has lost a loved one and felt that words were left unsaid, you're going to relate in amazing ways. Enjoy!
Ms. Neumeyer touches the heart of all her readers. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the background of the famous story that this book has graced us with.
I knew Adele Breaux for many years, the subject of this book as well as several other characters in the book, and found it heartfelt and in a way heartbreaking. I recommend for anyone who was her student or lived in her neighborhood.
The Lonely Heart of the Little Prince is a beautifully written story of a unique friendship that changed a woman’s life forever. I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Adele her integrity, her sensitivity, and her tenacity. The author really brings her alive and draws the reader into her inner turmoil. The progression of the story is also very well laid out moving from past to present and back seamlessly to unfold details that keeps the reader invested. I highly recommend this book as a fascinating peek into the history of a famous author as well as a truly heartfelt love story.
Adele and my husband were colleagues. We were frequent guests of hers for her famous "cassoulet" and she was a
frequent guest at our house. Our three children were small and whenever my husband had to go out of town Adele
would come and stay with us which was a great comfort to me. My friends would tease me about my 75-year-old
bodyguard. Her character and mannerisms are so well described in this book and it brought back wonderful memories
of her. She spoke of St. Ex frequently, wistfully, but always discreetly. Recognized several
of the personalities in the story - the principal, the teachers, Carmen - even Adam who was in first grade with our son Thierry.
It was a fun read. Especially amused at her escapade retrieving the painting.

The book is beautifully written, with its ease of style, its captivating nature and its sensitivity to character development. The story flows smoothly, with the flashbacks and dreams enhancing the storyline. The author entices you from the very the start, drawing you more and more completely into the life of Adele at this brief moment in time, giving you a clear picture of the powerful and enduring influence Saint-Exupery had on her life. The characters are 3-dimensional and very credible, especially Adele with her passion for teaching, her undying love for Saint-Exupery, her determination to remind the world through her writing, who this aviator/writer/Frenchman was and the beauty he brought to the world. The author allows you to feel the depth of emotions experienced by Adele, from her shyness and loneliness to elation and joy, to utter despair. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has read and loved, "The Little Prince" (If you haven't read it, you will surely want to after this). "Lonely Heart of the Little Prince" is a book worth reading and reading again.
Beautifully written, the story of Adele is both bittersweet and captivating. Her emotions seize the reader with every page, making you wish Adele would finally "tell him". It's not a story about unrequited love, but about the regret that comes with never professing such emotions, and how they eventually turn into haunting sentiments, corroding you from within.
For every "Little Prince" lover (and even those who've never had the chance to read it, such as myself), this story is a true gem everyone should enjoy.
